Gary G. Bennett is the Bishop-MacDermott Family Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience, Global Health and Medicine at Duke University. He directs the Duke Global Digital Health Science Center and the Duke Obesity Prevention Program. Dr. Bennett is also President-Elect of the Society of Behavioral Medicine. Dr. Bennett’s research program designs, tests, and disseminates digital health obesity treatments. Dr. Bennett developed the interactive obesity treatment approach (iOTA), which is being evaluated in several trials, both domestically and abroad. He has published more than 125 scientific papers. Dr. Bennett advises numerous health system, health advocacy, and health technology organizations. He co-founded Crimson Health Solutions (acquired by Health Dialog in 2007), which developed evidence-based behavior change interventions for the disease management sector. Most recently, he co-founded Scale Down, a personalized digital weight loss program powered by the latest science in daily self-weighing. Prior to joining Duke in 2009, Dr. Bennett served on the faculties of the Harvard School of Public Health and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Bennett earned his BA at Morehouse College and his PhD in clinical health psychology at Duke University, prior to completing postdoctoral studies in social epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.
