Genny Beemyn, Ph.D., is director of the Stonewall Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the coordinator of Campus Pride’s Trans Policy Clearinghouse. They are the author of A Queer Capital: A History of Gay Life in Washington, D.C. (Routledge, 2014) and, with Sue Rankin, of The Lives of Transgender People (Columbia University Press, 2011).
