George Chanos

Former Attorney General of Nevada

George J. Chanos, Esq. graduated from UNLV in 1981 as President of the Consolidated Students of the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He then served as an intern, in the Washington, D.C. office of U.S. Senator Paul Laxalt, until entering the University of San Diego School of Law, where he received his Juris doctorate in 1985.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Chanos practiced law as an associate with the San Diego offices of Finley, Kumble, Wagner, Heine, Underberg, Manley, Myerson and Casey. Mr. Chanos then went on to become a founding partner of Chanos Escobar Chanos, where his practice focused on resolving complex multi-party litigation in both state and federal courts. Mr. Chanos is licensed to practice law in both California and Nevada.

In 1997 Mr. Chanos served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada and in 1998 as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nevada Policy Research Institute.

On November 1, 2005, Mr. Chanos was appointed by Governor Kenny Guinn to serve as Nevada’s 31st Attorney General.

On November 1, 2006, as Nevada’s Attorney General, Mr. Chanos successfully argued (9-0) the case of Wharton vs. Bockting before the United States Supreme Court.
