Former Finance Minister of Greece and Professor of Finance & Economics at the U of Piraeus
Gikas Hardouvelis, a former Finance Minister of Greece and former adviser to two Greek Prime Ministers, is Professor of Finance & Economics at the Un. of Piraeus. He has taught at Columbia University and Rutgers University and was adviser at the New York Fed and the Bank of Greece. He was also Chief Economist and head of Risk and ALM at the National Bank of Greece and later Chief Economist at Eurobank. Gikas holds a Ph.D. in Economics from U. C. Berkeley and M.Sc. & B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University. His academic work is published in several top-ranked economic journals, and the academic citations to his work included him in the Hall of Fame of the top-50 individual publishers worldwide in applied econometrics over the period 1989 to 1995.
