Gretchen Goldman

As a lead analyst at the Center for Science and Democracy at UCS, Gretchen Goldman researches how science is used and misused in public policy. Gretchen is an author of many UCS reports on this theme, with topics ranging from government transparency, access to scientific information, hydraulic fracturing, business response to climate change, and sugar and health policy.

Dr. Goldman came to UCS from the Georgia Institute of Technology where she was a postdoctoral research fellow working on statistical modeling of urban air pollution for use in epidemiologic studies of acute human health effects. She has three first-author publications in this area and has presented her research at several international academic conferences. She has worked at the Northeast Regional Climate Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and interned with National Exposure Research Laboratory at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Atmospheric Science from Cornell University.

Dr. Goldman has been quoted in the Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, CNN.com, National Journal, The Guardian, Politico, and the Hill. She currently serves on the Air and Climate Public Advisory Committee for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
