Board Chair and President, The Hispanic Institute

Gus West serves as Board Chair and President of The Hispanic Institute.

Mr. West has been involved in government and in politics for more than 20 years, beginning with his service as the Assistant Sergeant-At-Arms of Nevada State Assembly and his tenure with the City of Las Vegas as a Senior Management Analyst. Mr. West later served at the U.S. Department of Commerce in the Economics and Statistics Administration, the Economic Development Administration, and in the International Trade Administration. In 1997 he formed a Governmental Affairs consulting practice that he continues to manage in Washington DC. Mr. West’s clients include: LULAC, Net for All (Internet service provider for Hispanic consumers), Citigroup, SAP America, the District of Columbia, the Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada, and the Bishop Piute Tribe of California.

Mr. West has coordinated and managed several high profile public initiatives including: the National Performance Review headed by Vice President Al Gore; the March Fund for Cancer Education, the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of NATO; Earth Day 2000; the Academy of Achievement.
