Ph.D. Candidate at the Duke University Marine Lab
Heather is a third year Marine Science and Conservation Ph.D. Candidate at Duke University. She graduated with her Master of Environmental Management degree from Duke and her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Connecticut. At Duke she studies the sounds of Hawaiian spinner dolphins in their resting bays off the Kona Coast of Hawaii Island. She also finds time to participate in many different outreach activities including the Females Excelling More in Math Engineering and Science (FEMMES) program at Duke University as an activity leader, an event created to engage middle school girls in STEM. Heather is also on the leadership team for the Scientific Research and Education Network (SciREN) event, an annual event held to bring researchers and teachers together to build relationships and for scientists to share classroom ready activities related to their research. Heather also has experience working in Education departments at The Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, New Jersey and SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida running educational programs for kids of all ages. She hopes to find her way to teaching at a college or university someday.
