James R. Murphy

Retired educator

James R. Murphy is a Texas native of Irish and Cherokee heritage who came east to go to college and stayed to work in the public education system of New York City. During his 25-year tenure, he served as a chemical lab specialist, math teacher, school union representative, principal of an alternative high school and principal of a middle school. He is now retired, but is hoping to bring his string-figure teaching system to the school systems of today. He is currently finishing a series of iBooks detailing his educational method (they can be found in the iTunes store by searching “James R. Murphy”). You can learn more about his work – and see instructional videos — at his Web site.
