Founder of TuneCore, music delivery and distribution company

On January 23rd, 2006, Jeff Price founded and launched his new music industry changing delivery and distribution company TuneCore. With TuneCore, all artists can gain access to the channels of music distribution while keeping control of all of their rights and receiving 100% of the revenue from the sale of their music. Artists can monitor how their music is selling and get their money the moment it becomes available.

In its 36 months since launch, TuneCore has over 65,000 customer accounts, delivered over 500,000 songs and generated over 30 million dollars in music sales for its customers including Grammy winners, record labels and unsigned artists. In addition, it gained an investment and strategic partnership with Guitar Center, the leader in musical gear and equipment sales with 30% market share and over 20 million active customers.

TuneCore has also established partnerships and programs with social networking sites, suppliers of music creation software, music vendors and other artist resources. These affiliations provide access to its specific customers as well as access for its customers to promotional opportunities.

Jeff is also co-founder and has been GM / President of the New York based independent record label spinART records for the past nineteen years – his label has been in strategic relationships with Sony, Warner Bros., Sire, Polygram Music Publishing and others.

spinART has distributed over 190 releases since its inception including such band/artist as: Ron Sexsmith, The Dears, The Pixies, Frank Black, Nellie McKay, You Am I, John Doe, Apples In Stereo, Vic Chesnutt, Jason Falkner, Richard Thompson, Echo & The Bunnymen, Paul Kelly, The Fastbacks, Creeper Lagoon, The Church, Lilys, The Eels, Clem Snide, Michael Penn and more.

spinART records was the first record label in the music industry to offer its catalog of releases via paid download as mp3s.

From 2004 to Present, Jeff contributed to the founding charter and organization of The American Association of Independent Music (AAIM) – a non profit non-governmental trade organization representing the interests of its independent label members.

He is also a sitting member of the AAIM New Media Board

From 1997 – 2001 Jeff Price worked with EMusic serving first as a consultant, next as interim VP of Content Acquisition and finally as the Senior Director of Music/Business Development. He contributed towards the creation of EMusic’s initial business model, played an active internal team role in EMusic’s successfully completed $30MM private placement in March 1999 and $90MM second round financing in September 1999 and created and implement the first subscription-based music sales and distribution structure

Mr. Price has been lecturing and appearing on panels in the US and Europe discussing the changing music industry as well as the impact the internet, compression technology, encryption and peer to peer file sharing have had on it.

He has appeared on numerous panels including CMJ, In The City, WebNYC, ECMA, Midem, Winter Music Conference, New Music Seminar, Billboard Music and Money Symposium, Independent Music Festival, Music Biz 2005, Audio Soft, MP3 Summit, South By South West, Digital Distribution and the Music Industry and countless others as well as teaches occasionally at New York University, Pace University, Berklee College of Music and more.

In addition, he has appeared on Nightline, CNBC, ABC News, CNN, MSNBC, CW11, and has been interviewed and quoted in publications ranging from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Billboard, Fortune, Spin, Crain’s, London Daily Mirror, NPR, National Geographic, Wired News, Business Week, The Industry Standard, Boston Globe, Stereophile, to Salon.com, ON24.com, ZDnet, and CNET to many others.

He is featured in the book “Off the Charts” -- an expose of the music industry. At the request of a congressional panel, he supplied a written deposition in the SEC investigation of Time Warner’s failed acquisition bid of EMI and has provided a witness statement for the SoundExchange arbitration relating to the royalty rate for webcasting
