Joan Shipps

Journalist

Joan Shipps is a journalist based in Washington, D.C.

Shipps has spent over a decade researching and writing about economic and sociopolitical trends in governmental, non-profit, and journalistic settings. She has written hundreds of published articles, which have appeared in such media fora as Alternet, The American Bee Journal, The Hill, and The Huffington Post. Shipps’s research findings and policy work have been cited by numerous news outlets, including The New York Times, The Root, Salon, and The Washington Post.

Shipps holds a master’s degree in International Economic Relations from American University’s School of International Service and a bachelor’s degree in International Languages and Cultures from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Shipps completed a semester of her undergraduate political theory studies at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences-Po), with all coursework conducted in French.

Shipps was previously a Presidential Management Fellow and a fellow with the Truman National Security Project.
