John Ruthrauff

John organizes InterAction's G7/G20 Advocacy Alliance of 50-plus U.S. NGOs, unions and think tanks. The Alliance publishes policy briefs on issues being addressed in the Summits. He also develops allies in G20 countries to encourage advocacy on these issues. In addition he assists with InterAction’s work on the World Bank and the IMF and annually conducts one- and two-day advocacy training workshops. John came from Oxfam America in 2005 where, beginning in 1999, he was director of their Washington office and Senior Policy Analyst. He is the founder and former executive director of the Center for Democratic Education, which for five years assisted local organizations in Central America advocate on the World Bank and InterAmerican Development Bank. John came to Washington in 1990 to be the executive director of the National Security Archive, a foreign policy documentation and research center. Prior to Washington, John was a community organizer, a senior aid to a Pennsylvania Senator, and the executive director of The Philadelphia Foundation. He had served as a tank company commander in the 24th Infantry Division. John holds a BA in economics from Rutgers University, an MA in sociology from Central Missouri State University, and an MBA from Drexel University.
