Founder of the Texas Tribune
John Thornton is the founder of the Texas Tribune, the non-profit, non-partisan public media organization that will launch later this year. He is also a General Partner at Austin Ventures, a Texas-based venture capital firm focusing on software investing and firm strategy. Previously, John was with McKinsey & Co., where he served clients in the U.S. and Europe.
John received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and his BA summa cum laude from Trinity University, where he graduated first in his class. He is a current advisory board member of Ballet Austin and The Harry Ransom Center, a founding board member of the Entrepreneur's Foundation, and a former trustee of both Trinity University and the Austin Museum of Art.
