Columnist, former member of the European Parliament
Joost Lagendijk is a columnist for Turkish dailies Zaman and Today’s Zaman. He worked as a senior adviser at the Istanbul Policy Center, the think tank of Sabanci University, for three years after moving to Turkey in 2009.
As a member of the European Parliament for the Dutch Greens from 1998 till 2009, he specialized in EU enlargement to Turkey and the Balkans.
He wrote four books in Dutch, on the borders of Europe, on the foreign policy strategies of the US and the EU, on European policy towards its Muslim neighbours (translated in English and Turkish) and on modern Turkey.
Born in the Netherlands, he graduated as a historian from Utrecht University.
