Authors, 'Freud's Mistress'

Karen Mack is a best-selling novelist and award-winning television producer.

Her first novel, Literacy and Longing in LA was on the LA Times Best Seller List for 15 weeks reaching #1 and won the 2006 Best Fiction Award from the California Bookseller’s Association. Her second novel, A Version of the Truth, also for Random House also reached the LA Times Bestseller list.

In 2010 and 2011, she co-wrote (with Jennifer Kaufman) a regular column about books for the LA Times Magazine entitled The Lonely Hearts Book Club.

Karen has produced many film and television productions and has been Executive Producer or Producer of films which have shot around the world. As Executive Producer and Producer, Ms. Mack has been in charge of television pilots, movies, mini-series and film, and supervised their evolution from idea to screenplay, prep, shoot, post-production and has coordinated and/or created the marketing for all these films.

Her television films include the Golden Globe, Christopher, and Emmy Award winning “One Against the Wind”, a Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation. In addition to winning two Golden Globe Awards including Best Motion Picture for Television for Ms Mack.

For the past 14 years, she has been Executive Producer of “A Home for the Holidays,” an annual CBS Network Special which promotes foster care adoption. Home for the Holidays won the 2008 Television Academy Honors, an award given out by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Karen is a cum laude graduate of UCLA with a B.A. in Political Science and a Juris Doctorate from the UCLA School of Law.

Jennifer Kaufman is a best-selling novelist and award-winning journalist.

She has written feature stories for national publications and is currently a freelance writer living in Los Angeles. Her first novel, co-written with Karen Mack, Literacy and Longing in LA was on the LA Times best seller list for 15 weeks reaching #1 and also won the 2006 Best Fiction Award from the California Bookseller’s Association. Her second novel, also co-written with Karen Mack, A Version of the Truth, was also on the LA Times best seller list.

In 2010 and 2011, she co-wrote (with Karen Mack) a monthly column about books for the LA Times Magazine entitled the Lonely Hearts Book Club.

Jennifer Kaufman was a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times for 10 years. She is a two-time winner of the Penney-Missouri Journalism Award for Feature Writing and Spot News Reporting.

Ms. Kaufman spent three years as Bureau Chief for Fairchild Publications, Woman’s Wear Daily and W magazine in Milan and Rome. Prior to that, she worked for Fairchild Publications in New York covering business, film and features. She was formerly a staff reporter for the Baltimore News American and The Prince George’s County Sentinel in Bethesda, Maryland.

Ms. Kaufman attended Eastman School of Music and is a graduate of Barnard College and Barnard Post-Graduate Journalism Program. She is a flutist and pianist.
