Kate Maehr

Executive Director and CEO of the Greater Chicago Food Depository

Kate Maehr leads the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, in its mission to provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in Cook County. In this role, she has guided a number of strategic initiatives and accomplishments to distribute nutritious food across the community while addressing the root causes of hunger. Under Kate’s leadership, the Food Depository has expanded operations and distribution to meet tremendous rising demand. As need grew during the Great Recession, the Food Depository increased its distribution by more than 20 million pounds while launching new programs and partnerships to reach vulnerable populations. A leading voice in the fight against hunger in Cook County and across the nation, Kate advocates for a strong and coordinated response from both the public and private sectors. Kate is a Board Member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks.
