Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy/Advancement Officer, YMCA of the USA

Kate Markin Coleman is executive vice president, chief strategy officer of YMCA of the USA (Y-USA), the national resource office for the Y – one of the nation’s leading nonprofits dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Before joining the nonprofit in 2007, Kate served as executive vice president of financial development, marketing and communications for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago.

In her current role at Y-USA, Kate leads the Marketing, Communications and Financial Development departments and Y-USA’s Strategic Initiatives Fund, providing direction and oversight to help the Y achieve recognition in the nonprofit industry. She also oversees strategic and operational planning and the office of project management.

Kate currently serves on the Council of the Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies of the University of Chicago, a committee of the Board of Trustees. She also is a member of Brand 50 and the Nonprofit CMO Roundtable of the American Marketing Association Foundation.

Kate holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., a master’s degree in business administration in finance, public/non-profit management and a master’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Chicago.
