Lotte Verbeek

Actress

LOTTE VERBEEK is a lead on SHOWTIME’S highly acclaimed series THE BORGIAS, created and executive produced by Oscar-winning director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) and written by Michael Hirst (The Tudors). THE BORGIAS is an epic drama about one of history's most intriguing and infamous dynastic families, who ascend to the highest circles of power in Renaissance-era Italy. VERBEEK plays ‘Giulia Farnese,’ the mistress of Rodrigo Borgias aka Pope Alexander VI (played by Oscar winner Jeremy Irons), who harnesses her beauty and sexuality to elicit power and influence over the Pope, changing the course of history. The second season premieres on April 8, 2012.

Most recently, Lotte Verbeek was cast in Mike Figgis’ psychological thriller, Suspension of Disbelief. The project, which blurs the lines between reality and fiction in the story of a screenwriter and professor who is implicated in the murder of a mysterious young woman, began filming in February 2012.

VERBEEK was nominated for a European Academy Award in the Best Actress category for her lead role as Anne in NOTHING PERSONAL. She won the Best Actress Award at the International Film Festivals of Locarno and Marrakech, and was nominated for the National Dutch Film Award, Golden Calf, as Best Actress.

Prior, she appeared in the Italian production, LE RAGAZZE DELLO SWING (Maurizio Zaccaro). In addition to her film and television career, VERBEEK’s theater work includes "Maria Magdalena Van Wayb Traub", which toured Europe in 2009.

In 2007, she won her first leading role in a feature film, LEFT (Froukje Tan) in which she amazingly played five double roles. The film was awarded a Silver Melies in Sweden.

Holland-born VERBEEK professionally trained at the Amsterdam Academy of Dramatic Arts, as well as at the Amsterdam Academy of Jazz/Musical Theatre and Dance. During her training at the Academy of Dramatic Arts, she was cast as the lead in the television drama, "Moes". She attended circus school in her earlier years.

A lover of all creative arts, VERBEEK enjoys traveling, dancing, designing clothes, exploring and living in new cities. She currently splits her time between Holland, France and the US.
