Maggie Kozel, M.D.

Author, 'The Color of Atmosphere: One Doctor's Journey In and Out of Medicine'

Maggie Kozel, MD graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and went on to specialize in pediatrics at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Kozel practiced as a Navy physician for eight years. She entered civilian practice first in Washington DC and then in Rhode Island where for ten years she was a pediatrician/partner in private practice. Dr. Kozel, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, took a break from clinical practice after nearly twenty years to write about her experiences in health care. As a member of Doctors for America she has been very involved in advocating for healthcare reform, writing extensively about it and speaking at local and national levels. Dr. Kozel is currently practicing pediatrics at a community health center in RI. She serves on the AAP's Council on School Health, and is on the teaching faculty of Brown University's Medical School. She lives in Jamestown, RI where she continues her writing and advocacy work. She is the author of the award-winning "The Color of Atmosphere: One Doctor’s Journey In and Out of Medicine," released by Chelsea Green Publishing.
