Marcella Burtch

88-year-old poet

Marcella was born the third of five children in a small town in southern Indiana in 1926. Her father died in 1934 at the age of 36…leaving her mother to raise Marcella and her four siblings (ranging in age from 11 to six weeks) by herself in the midst of the Great Depression. Due in no small measure to that effort, all the kids turned out independent and successful….with careers and businesses in real estate, clothing design, medicine and beauty. Marcella enjoyed several concurrently successful careers; fashion design, advertising , and writing, both in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Los Angeles, California, to where she had relocated in 1952 with the man who would eventually become her husband. The pair moved back to Indiana in 1992 after their retirement to be closer to their families. Since her husband’s passing in 2007, Marcella has spent her time blogging on a variety of topics, traveling, and writing poetry. She relocated to Southern California in 2012 to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
