President, Dickinson College
Dr. Margee Ensign is president of Dickinson College, which was established 1783 --the first college established in the new United States of America. It is a leader in global education and sustainability. She has recently stepped down as the president of the American University of Nigeria where she also led the Adamawa Peace Initiative (API), a local Yola-based response to the escalating violence, which successfully promoted peace in the area through humanitarian assistance for close to 300,000 internally displaced people, and innovative peace and education programs. Dr. Ensign has been internationally recognized for her pioneering work by Rotary International, the African Business Roundtable, the Women of Jama’atul Nasril Islam in Nigeria among others. Dr. Ensign has worked in and on the continent for fifteen years and has served as an advisor to the governments of Uganda and Rwanda. She is a widely published scholar whose work focuses on peace and development. She is the co-author of Rwanda: History and Hope, also co-editor of Confronting Genocide in Rwanda as well as author of Images and Behavior of Private Bank Lending and Japan’s Foreign Aid: Doing Good or Doing Well?
