Mark A. Elgart

Mark A. Elgart, Ed.D., has been involved in the education field as a science and math teacher, middle school principal, district administrator, and as a school improvement, evaluation, and accountability expert for more than 30 years.

As CEO of AdvancED, Elgart has been responsible for leading the development and implementation of new, innovative models of accreditation and diagnostic review of school and school systems that focus on every aspect of institutional performance. An accrediting organization for early childhood education and K-12 schools and a school improvement agency, AdvancED provides diagnostic reviews for more than 34,000 schools and 5,000 school systems across the United States and around the world. Elgart has been influential in helping policy leaders at the state and national levels shape and enact policy related to educational quality, continuous improvement and accountability. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Knowledge Alliance and Measured Progress and a national advisor for Learning Forward. Elgart also has advised states and the Council of Chief State School Officers on a broad range of issues, including sparking improvement in low-performing schools, developing state data systems, and establishing comprehensive diagnostic reviews of schools and districts.
