Mark Heisler, former NBA writer for the Los Angeles Times, and the 2006 winner of the Naismith Hall of Fame’s Curt Gowdy Award, has covered professional basketball, among other things, since 1969.

A native of Springfield, Ill., he graduated from the University of
Illinois with a B.A. in history and an M.A. in journalism. After two
years at the Rochester Times-Union, three at the Philadelphia Inquirer
and seven at the Philadelphia Bulletin, he joined the Los Angeles
Times
in 1979 and spent the next 32 years covering the Lakers,
Raiders, Dodgers and Angels. He has written books about the Lakers and
Pat Riley and co-authored a book about Bobby Knight with Steve
Delsohn. Mark Heisler is currently a regular contributor to SheridanHoops.com.

Heisler lives in Northridge, Calif., with his wife, the long-suffering
Loretta Summers Heisler, and their daughter, Emily.
