Lieutenant General (retired), member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition
Mark Hertling joined the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition in September 2013. He served for almost four decades in the US Army, and retired as a Commanding General of US Army, Europe. During his career, Mark also served as the Deputy Commanding General for Initial Military Training, where he initiated reforms in the training, values, and skills programs for new recruits and newly commissioned officers in the Army, including the “Soldier-Athlete Initiative,” and the “Fueling the Soldier Initiative,” both designed to improve the physical conditioning and nutritional health of civilians joining the military.
