Matthew Boulay enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1997 and served a tour of duty in Iraq from February to September 2003. Since coming home, he has served as the Director of the Fund for Veterans’ Education and the Campaign for a New GI Bill, successfully lobbying Congress to pass a new GI Bill. He now lives in Salem, OR with his wife and two children and leads the National Summer Learning Association, the only national non-profit organization focused solely on the issue of summer learning loss and the achievement gap. He continues to write about his experiences in Iraq.
