Matthew T. Ryan is mayor of the City of Binghamton in Upstate New York. Before being elected in 2005, he served a public defender and taught environmental law at Binghamton University. Mayor Ryan is a strong advocate for stopping gun violence through legislative reform. He joined Mayors Against Illegal Guns in 2009, following a mass shooting in Binghamton, when a mentally ill gunman killed 13 people before turning the gun on himself.
