Struck By Genius: How a Brain Injury Made Me a Mathematical Marvel, Author

Maureen Seaberg's second book is the story of Jason Padgett, who acquired synesthesia and savant syndrome due to a brain injury sustained in a brutal mugging eleven years ago in Tacoma, Washington. It is titled Struck By Genius: How a Brain Injury Made Me a Mathematical Marvel (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). Ms. Seaberg has higher and lower synesthesias: her k's are teal, her 8's aubergine and she'd have to become a glass artisan to describe what she sees when listening to Yo-Yo Ma as words fail her. She also recently tested positive on a DNA test for tetrachromacy. Ms. Seaberg is a member of Mensa and won a scholarship to the inaugural Norman Mailer Writers Colony in 2009. She lives in New York City.
