Mervin T. White, Jr.

Candidate for State Representative in House District No. 4

Mervin T. White, Jr. is 24-years-old and running for State Representative in House District No. 4 (open seat). After graduating high school, White thought he would become an architect. However, it really wasn’t his true passion. So instead he enrolled in Kaplan University, an online school, and got a degree in legal studies. White was able to receive his associate’s and bachelor’s degree and is currently working on a Masters in Public Administration all while gaining valuable work experience.

White has worked with some of the most prominent leaders in government including: President Barack Obama (2011), U.S. Senator Carl Levin (2009), U.S. Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (2011), Former Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm (2010), and State Representative Barb Byrum (2011).

White often speaks to young people about his unstable past and stresses that you don’t need an Ivy League degree to get involved in your community. As a native of Detroit, White felt he had a personal obligation to return to home to help create a positive change for the people of his community.
