Michael Larson

inventor, professor, sleep zealot and entrepreneur who cares

Michael Larson earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He has cofounded four companies, from bootstrapped to VC-backed, and enjoys teaching others about entrepreneurship as the El Pomar Endowed Chair of Engineering and Innovation and Professor at the University of Colorado. Michael loves working with others to create things that make people’s lives better, particularly in the realm of sleep. He has five issued U.S. patents and six pending.
With funding totaling more than $7M from a variety of agencies, Michael has tackled a number of research projects related to the fracture and failure of materials and to the use of lasers in closing wounds in surgery as an alternative to sutures and staples. Dr. Larson has conducted numerous workshops on the topics of innovation and creative problem solving and has garnered six awards for outstanding teaching.
Michael has piloted a jet aircraft, steered a nuclear submarine, and can wiggle his ears. One at a time.
