Michael Minelli

Artist and educator

Michael Minelli is an artist and educator living in Los Angeles. His practice is sculpturally based; insofar that he believes meaning is both created and informed by the material relationships we encounter within our everyday. He received his B.A. from Rutgers College with a concentration in Economics and Business Administration. After spending six months staring into the abyss of corporate labor as an accountant in IBM’s Northeast Division Headquarters, Michael moved to New York City and began making more reasonable use of his time as a truck driver, security guard, musician and artist.

Michael’s work incorporates sculptural objects, drawing, writing and photography in an effort to mine the prickly relationship between popular media discourse and the individual subject. He has exhibited in the United States and Europe. In 2006, his project not by everybody was commissioned by The Wexner Center for the Arts and presented as part of the exhibition “Shiny.” Michael’s project, “I Know Where You L” was exhibited at the WPA in Los Angeles in Fall 2009. He is scheduled to exhibit at the CUE Foundation in NYC in January 2012. Michael has taught studio arts and critical studies at Art Center College of Design, Otis College of Art and Design and is currently a core faculty member in the low-residency MFA program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
