Michelle L. Humeidan

Michelle L. Humeidan, M.D., Ph.D.: From Columbus, Ohio and an alum of Capital University, Dr. Humeidan completed the MD-PhD Program at the University of Kentucky in 2011. Her doctoral dissertation was titled 'Glutamate Regulation in the Hippocampal Trisynaptic Pathway in Aging and Status Epilepticus'. A Diplomate of The American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Humeidan completed Internship, Residency and a Fellowship in Neuroanesthesiology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Her research interests have continued to focus on aging, and she currently holds a NIH LRP award for her clinical trial investigating the impact of pre-operative cognitive exercise on postoperative delirium and overall recovery in elderly surgical patients (Perioperative Cognitive Protection: Cognitive Exercise and Cognitive Reserve, The Neurobics Trial). She is currently the Anesthesia Champion for the OSUWMC2 Quality Improvement Initiative (Optimal Surgical Utilization with Minimal Cancellations and Complications), and represents the Wexner Medical Center in the American Society of Anesthesiologists Perioperative Surgical Home Learning Collaborative. Additional research interests include multimodal, narcotic-sparing perioperative analgesia and the role of neuroinflammation in post-operative cognitive dysfunction.​
