Clinton Global Initiative University 2013 Commitment-Maker; Epidemiology Major at University of Rochester

A Clinton Global University 2013 commitment-maker, Ola Oladeru was born in a rural village in Nigeria, and moved with his family to the U.S. in 1999. He grew up in an
underserved community in the South Bronx, where he was surrounded by gangs, drugs
and violence. He attributes much of his success to the Harlem Educational Activities Fund, which offered him a safe haven and mentorship after school. As a high school senior, Ola was selected as a Gates Millennium and Ronald McDonald Scholar. He is a senior at the University of Rochester majoring in Epidemiology. During his undergraduate studies, he had the opportunity to study abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, and this summer, he will be interning at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. After graduating in May 2013, Ola will attend Yale University for his Master of Public Health in Chronic Disease Epidemiology.
