Patricia Mechael

Executive Director, mHealth Alliance

Patricia Mechael, PhD MHS, is the Executive Director of the mHealth Alliance, which is hosted by the United Nations Foundation, as well as a faculty member at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs and Earth Institute. She has dedicated the past 15 years to catalyzing global health movements- including 10 years unlocking the potential of mobile technology and driving ground-breaking innovation to solve global health challenges by building bridges, forging links, aligning seemingly disparate interests to deliver win-wins. She serves as global health ambassador and strategic advisor to government ministries, telecommunications and pharmaceutical companies, NGOs, UN agencies, and academic institutions with experience in over 30 countries, primarily in Africa & the Middle East, Asia and Latin America, to promote quality of life, better health and self-determination for communities everywhere. She is recognized for her role as an mHealth thought leader, keynote, professor, researcher and writer. In addition, she is the recipient of Knowledge for the World Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Johns Hopkins University and co-editor of mHealth in Practice: Mobile technology for health promotion in the developing world.
