Dr. Peter G. Hanson, M.D., has a unique background, one that gives him outstanding qualifications on the subject of stress.

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he developed qualities of public speaking at an early stage. By the age of 14, he was working in live television, performing comedy monologues to fill in the gap between the afternoon movie and the daily news.

But despite his comedic talents, Dr. Hanson had serious career objectives. At the age of 24 he graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School. A year later, he was appointed team doctor for the Toronto Argonauts Football club, becoming the youngest team doctor in professional sports. In this position, he learned a great deal of the effects of stress on human performance.

Further establishing his medical credentials, Dr. Hanson worked as an emergency room physician in a busy suburban Toronto hospital for three years. In 1973 he established an office practice in family medicine that became one of the largest in Canada, with more than 4,000 active patients from newborns to centenarians. He has delivered more than 1,000 babies and made more than 5,000 house calls. This gave him a truly unique window on stress and its effect on health from cradle to grave.

When The Joy of Stress was released in 1985, it broke all records for a self-published book at the time. The book rose to No. 1 the country, and stayed on the national best-sellers list for a then-record 79 weeks. Since then, it has been published in more than 20 languages, most recently Chinese and Arabic, and has sold more than 1 million copies.

Dr. Hanson has used his aptitudes for entertainment well, doing key-note speeches to hundreds of live audiences, from Fortune 500 corporations to business associations, as well as the general public. In promoting his books around the world, he has appeared on hundreds of live television shows in Europe, the U.S. and Canada, and Australasia. He has had a nationally syndicated radio feature that ran daily in Canada for more than five years.

For almost two decades, he practiced sports medicine and acupuncture in Denver. His first patient there was the Bronco’s football star John Elway, and he continued to treat stars from the NHL's Avalanche and LA Kings teams, as well as weekend warriors of all ages. Dr. Hanson now resides in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where he practices sports medicine and family practice.

Dr. Hanson has also addressed the cosmetic effects of stress. Teaming up with Suzanne Somers and Rodger Mohme (formerly with Apple), they developed the FaceMaster, a home unit that tones the underlying muscles of the face. Dr. Hanson and Suzanne have appeared regularly on television, marketing this amazing machine. The FaceMaster is available at: www.facemaster.com.

Dr. Hanson continues to perform in front of live audiences as a professional speaker. He can be reached at: Contact Us, or directly at doctor@stressworksinc.com. His website is www.stressipedia.com.
