In 1996, Philip Nitschke, PhD, MD, became the first physician in the world to administer a legal lethal voluntary injection to four terminally ill patients under Australia’s short-lived Rights of the Terminally Ill Act. As Founder and Director of Exit International, Dr. Nitschke has written extensively in the area of assisted/rational suicide including the leading practical self-help guide, The Peaceful Pill Handbook. Philip is married to lawyer/sociologist, Dr. Fiona Stewart. With their dog Henny Penny, they live on a houseboat outside Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
