Senior Adviser, UNICEF’s Children Affected by AIDS

Rachel Yates is UNICEF’s Senior Adviser for Children Affected by AIDS in New York and is co-convenor of the UNAIDS joint-response on social protection, care and support for people living with and affected by HIV. Dr Yates has led the development of policy guidance on children affected by AIDS, a global literature review on HIV and social protection and provides technical support to UNICEF’s country and regional offices. She is presently leading a costing exercise of global social protection, care and support programs for children affected by AIDS.

Rachel has over 20 years’ experience working with the UN, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and Save the Children. She has spent 13 years living and working in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia with a focus on public health, social policy and sustainable livelihoods.
