Ramez Naam is a Fellow of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies. He is a former Microsoft executive, and former CEO of Apex Nanotechnologies. He's a computer scientist who spent 13 years at Microsoft, leading teams working on web browsing, search, and artificial intelligence. He holds almost 20 patents in those areas. He’s also the H.G. Wells Award-winning author of More Than Human: Embracing the Promise of Biological Enhancement (2005). He blogs for Scientific American and elsewhere on science, technology, and their impact on society. Ramez has worked as a life guard, has climbed mountains, backpacked through remote corners of China, and ridden his bicycle down hundreds of miles of the Vietnam coast. He lives in Seattle.
