Reuben Blundell

Reuben Blundell is the orchestra conductor at Hunter College of the City University of New York. Appointed in 2009, he has grown the Hunter Symphony from a small chamber orchestra to a symphony orchestra performing major classics by Dvorak and Tchaikovsky, featured new works by American composers, while collaborating with theater, museums, classical dance and even an Iraqi hip-hop dance troupe. Outside Hunter, Blundell works with the Riverside Orchestra on the Upper West Side, and the Chelsea Symphony. In suburban Philadelphia, he is Music Director of the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra. Performances with these ensembles have been critically acclaimed, as has his CD of Romantic-era String Music from the United States. Blundell received his undergraduate and masters degrees in violin performance in Australia, where he originally hails from, before attending the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy, in Miami under the leadership of Michael Tilson Thomas. His Doctorate is in conducting, from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. When not on the podium, Blundell can be found in upstate Manhattan with his wife Karen, their young daughter, and a deranged cat named Gracy.
