Roberto Montoya, M.A.

Roberto Montoya is a third year doctoral student at the University of Colorado Denver working on a PhD in Educational Studies and Research. Born in Ft. Riley, Kansas and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico he traces his ancestry to families who have been in New Mexico since it was controlled by Spain in the early 19th Century and by México until 1848. Roberto matriculated through the Albuquerque public school system and graduated from West Mesa High School in 1995. He has a bachelor’s degree from Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, CO, and was the first Latino to be elected Student Body President in the school’s 100-year history. He has a M.A. in Ethnic Studies from Regis University and his research focuses on critical race theory, Latino critical race theory (LatCrit), critical Whiteness studies, critical pedagogy, hip-hop pedagogy, performance and intersectionality.
