Sayed-Hassan Akhlaq

Philosopher, Writer, Human Right Activist, and Imam

Professor Akhlaq was born in Bamyan, Afghanistan. He grew up in an immigration area with stories of Jihad, ideological clash, stranger and countrymen, search for truth, and ideals and actual conditions. He experienced the battle between modern and classical tendencies; that made him aware of the intellectual conflict between Islamic and non-Islamic schools of thought. First, he studied Islamic traditional courses in Madarsa and then he educated in the field of Islamic Theology and Philosophy in Razavi University of Islamic Sciences. He obtained his Master of Art degree in the field of Western Philosophy from the Imam Khomeini International University and a doctorate (PhD) in Western Philosophy from Allameh Tabatabaii University, in Tehran. He has taught at universities in Iran and Afghanistan. He acted as the adviser of Academy of Sciences of Afghanistan and also co-found a university in Kabul. He served as the chancellor of the University in Farah Branch. Also, Akhlaq worked almost five years at the Center for the Study of Values and Culture in the Catholic University of America to promote dialogue among civilizations.Now, he works as the adviser for the Center for the Study of Islam and the Middle East and the Global Watch Group in Washington D.C. He published four books in Farsi and one volume in English.
