Sarah Smith

Director of Children and Youth Protection Development, International Rescue Committee

Sarah Smith oversees International Rescue Committee programs for children and youth in the Syria region and in some 20 other countries impacted by violent conflict and disaster. She has worked in education and child protection for 15 years, and has managed programs in Bangladesh, Guinea, Namibia and Nepal, and served as a technical advisor in countries including Afghanistan, Chad, Congo, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Northern Caucasus, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Thailand and Uganda. She began her career as a preschool and elementary school teacher, and previously worked for Concern Worldwide and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and was a Peace Corps volunteer. Ms. Smith holds a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Columbia University.
