Sofia Maldonado

Sofia Maldonado completed her postgraduate studies at Pratt Institute in 2008 and continues to live in New York. Her paintings draw inspiration from aspects of street culture, abstract art, and postfeminist theory. Maldonado was awarded a Manhattan Community Arts Fund grant by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Her first solo museum exhibition took place at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in Puerto Rico, in 2012; she has also exhibited in several major institutions, including the Mint Museum, the Museum of Art and Design, the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, the Ringling Museum, the Tenth Havana Biennial, and El Museo del Barrio. Her public projects have been sponsored by Real Arts Ways, the Times Square Alliance, and the Bronx Museum of the Arts.
