Sylvia Sukop

Sylvia Sukop writes about art, faith, community and other good causes. A 2015 Lambda Literary Fellow and 2009 PEN Emerging Voices Fellow, she has received grants including Mesa Refuge, Blue Mountain Center, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and a Fulbright Fellowship to Germany. She is currently a 2018 MFA candidate in the Creative Writing Program at Washington University in St. Louis. Her essay "Pioneers on the Frontier of Faith," a personal take on the world's first LGBT church and synagogue, appears in the anthology LAtitudes: An Angeleno's Atlas (Heyday, 2015). She has also been a contributing writer to Flaunt magazine and the photography journal Exposure. A first-generation American, she grew up in Pennsylvania and her second hometowns include Boston, New York and Los Angeles. Photography has been an integral part of her journey as a visual artist and storyteller. Founder of the teen photography project Boulevard Without Borders, she collaborated with fellow artists and with students from 10 Los Angeles high schools to document the diverse communities along Pico Boulevard.
