Tero Vauraste

President & CEO of icebreaker operator Arctia Ltd. and Vice Chair of the Arctic Economic Council (AEC)

Mr. Vauraste heads Arctia, a limited company established in 2010 and owned by the state of Finland. The company’s line of business is the provision of icebreaking and specialized multipurpose vessel services, along with the management and chartering of ships in the Baltic Sea and polar areas.

Mr. Vauraste also serves as Vice Chairman of the Arctic Economic Council, an independent organization established in 2014 that facilitates Arctic business-to-business activities and responsible economic development, as well as the sharing of best practices, technological solutions, standards and other information.

Mr. Vauraste’s educational background includes a M.Sc. in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management from Leicester University and a naval officer exam from the Finnish Naval Academy. He has served as vessel master and several other positions in the Finnish Coast Guard. His current military rank is Lieutenant-Commander. Prior to joining Arctia in 2009, he has long experience in senior executive positions within the traffic and logistics service clusters.

In addition to his duties at Arctia and the Arctic Economic Council, CEO Vauraste holds several positions of trust, including Chairman of the Finnish Maritime Weather Advisory Group, member of the Board at the Arctic Society of Finland and member of the Advisory Group of Finnish Lifeboat Institution.
