Thomas Shomaker is a freelance video producer, photographer and journalist. First traveling to Japan in 2005, he has been there four times on extended trips. His travels have taken him to many locals in the country including, in 2009, to the city of Sendai and Aomori Prefecture, two of the worst hit areas of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. In the summer of 2011, Thomas and his wife welcomed their daughter into the world while staying in her hometown in Wakayama Prefecture, on the Kii Peninsula.
