Valerie P. Hans is Professor of Law at Cornell University. She conducts empirical studies of law and the courts, and is one of the nation's leading authorities on the jury system. She has conducted extensive research and lectured throughout the US and around the globe on juries and jury reforms as well as the uses of social science in legal cases. She is the author or editor of eight books and more than one hundred scholarly articles. At Cornell Law School she teaches courses on the contemporary American jury, social science and law, psychology and law, empirical legal studies, and torts. Professor Hans is the current President of the Law and Society Association, and a Public Voices Fellow of the OpEd Project.
