Heather R. Higgins

President & CEO, Independent Women's Voice

Heather’s background is in finance, public policy, and media, all happily combined with an inclination to make trouble. She works with a variety of non-profits, including the Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), of which she is chairman, and it’s related qualified c4, Independent Women’s Voice (IWV), where she serves as President and CEO. She writes, most frequently for the Wall Street Journal where she used to be an editorial writer, and does television and radio discussing primarily public policy and politics. Heather was recognized as one of Campaigns & Elections 50 Most Influential People in 2014 for her issue advocacy and a leader who will shape future election cycles. Moreover, IWV's messaging work in the South Carolina First Congressional District special election – where IWV was the only independent expenditure of significant size supporting Mark Sanford – was honored for excellence for their authentic messages and unique delivery vehicles with Reed Awards and multiple Pollie Awards. This follows a long track record of success in races others deemed at best as tossup or wrote off altogether, including the Massachusetts 2010 special Senate race (Scott Brown), the Hawaii-01 2010 race for Obama’s home district, and significant contributions to moving Independents in the Walker recall and in the 2012 presidential election. Heather knows the scope of the problem created by ObamaCare, and that the right arguments can help people understand why we need to move in another direction. Through Independent Women's Voice, she have created a number of projects from NoWashingtonExemption that calls for changes to make sure Congress has to live under ObamaCare, just like the rest of us, to ObamaCareTimeout in support of a one-year delay of the law to spare families the taxes, penalties and risks to their personal data. And of course, IWV created the Repeal Pledge, signed by more than 240,000 Americans, which calls for the complete repeal of this horrendous law so we can take the country in a better direction, with true patient-centered reforms that give families and doctors more choices and control of their health. IWV launched MyCancellation.com to give the millions of Americans losing their health care plans a place to tell their story. The Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook have attracted thousands of followers, and are just the first wave of this project. Heather and the IWV team are making a big impact by educating the key constituencies of Independents and Women about the need to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act with market-oriented, patient-centered health care solutions. Through the newly launched Independent Women’s Network (IWN) – a grassroots project to win hearts and minds of women and men – IWV will work to create an informed and engaged electorate that has more choices, greater freedom, and makes the right decisions at the ballot box. Heather is a graduate of Wellesley College, with honors, and holds an MBA in Finance from NYU.
