The increasingly likely victory of Francois Hollande in the French presidential election would be the shot for economic justice and jobs that will be heard around the world. It would be the repudiation by one of the world's leading nations of the unjust economics of the 1 percent that is championed by Sarkozy in France, Merkel in Germany, Cameron in Britain and Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and George W. Bush in the United States. A Hollande victory would bring a French Spring.
Hollande leading France would end what I called "Midnight in Paris" after his triumph in the first round of voting, and begin a new French Spring that would elevate France to a rejuvenated position of world leadership. It would end the right's euro hegemony dominated by the conservative economics of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and would reject the "government of the banks" and the "government of the 1 percent" that created and continues the financial catastrophe of our times.
The euro crisis will never be solved with a continuation of a conservative hegemony that corrupts politics, finance, economics and social justice. A Hollande victory would be the beginning of the almost certain end of this conservative-Tory-Republican notion of massive bailouts of banks, punishing austerity for workers, cruel and sadistic abuse of the poor during which the "rich get richer" and large masses of men and women are forced to endure the unfairness, and suffer the pain, of policies that are economically disastrous and morally indecent.
Imagine a major European government led by a leader who believes in jobs programs for workers, fair treatment for women, faith-based respect for the poor and dignity for minorities, and who rejects both cruel and unjust economic policies and the politics of racism and bigotry!
Yes indeed: If Francois Hollande wins there will be a French Spring of new ideas, new hopes, new policies and new thinking in France that will be part of the great trend called the Populist Century, which has only begun.
From the noble hopes of the young in the Arab Spring and the Occupy Wall Street movements to the aspirations of women and workers around the globe, there is a war of the worlds between those who believe in the government of the few and for the banks, and those who believe in standing for all of the people, all of the time.
It is high time for new thinking, a new spring and a new economic enlightenment for France, Europe, America and the economies of the world.
