When the weekend begins, we completely understand the urge to drop everything, smash your computer screen and run like a wild banshee into the bliss of Saturday and Sunday. Friday
Do we even have to tell you that Friday is National Doughnut Day...? Surely the date is circled and highlighted in your calendar. In honor of this glorious holiday, Krispy Kreme will be giving out one free doughnut per person, making a visit (or perhaps multiple visits -- in disguise!) to this institution a top priority.
Later, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., enjoy the Street Food Social Hour at Red O, hosted by Chef Rick Bayless in honor of the restaurant's two-year anniversary. If you stay for dinner, a free strawberry shortcake is yours! Then, head to Fairfax between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to hit up Lola's for a free martini (just don't forget to RSVP!).
If you'd prefer to spend your Friday evening downtown, you can watch a free outdoor performance of The Tempest, or make friends at a wine-tasting soiree at Elevate. For dinner, check out the just-opened Peruvian restaurant Mo-Chica to see what all the fuss is about.
Saturday
You know we like to start your mornings off on the right foot, so we are strongly suggesting you check out the pay-by-donation yoga class that is being offered at the Mary Hotchkiss Park in Santa Monica. Afterward, learn to make your own jewelry at this Lifecrowd class, or indulge in some beer-tasting at the Dogfish Head Beer event at Four Points LAX. End your evening with a screening of Where the Wild Things Are at the Aero.
If you'd rather spend your Saturday in town, first stuff your face at Fig & Olive's new $28 brunch, and then prepare yourself for some serious shopping. There's the NY transplant Hester Street Fair happening in Hollywood, the $1 sidewalk sale at Observe the Found in Silver Lake, a big sale at South Willard if you're on the hunt for a stylish Father's Day gift, and 40 percent discounts at 3.1 Phillip Lim. You might also want to peruse Persephenie, the charming private apothecary that is now open to the public, or the new boutique Show Pony on West 3rd Street.
Treat yourself to a free strawberry yogurt tasting at Pinkberry, and then make your way to the hilarious Scott Nevins performance or the Horrible Movie Night screening of Demonwarp at the NerdMelt Theater. If you're craving margaritas and burritos (girls after our own hearts), get your fix at the recently-opened Pink Taco on Sunset, and then head downtown to party after-hours at the Public Library. If you're more of an up-in-the-club type, you can opt instead for dinner at the newly-opened Lure Gastro Lounge, which will then provide you with access to the club itself. We will not see you there, but be sure to do at least one thing you'll later regret on our behalf.
Sunday
Drag yourself out of bed for a (free!) 9 a.m. yoga class that is being offered as part of the W Los Angeles Westwood's Wellness Weekends program that launches this weekend. Classes are open to the public, and they end with a free mimosa + 20 percent off brunch on the day of your class.
After enjoying your mimosa, you can watch us sweat it out (and potentially collapse in a pool of said sweat) at the three-hour YAS-a-Thon to fight cancer. After, grab a drink at the just-opened Dry Tour in Venice, a very old-school bar that has been stripped down to its original 1908 flooring and ceiling.
Or, head east to the Hollywood Museum to explore the new Marilyn Monroe exhibit, and then scare yourself senseless at a screening of Bram Stoker's Dracula at the Egyptian -- by comparison, Monday morning will seem slightly less terrifying.
