Rodgers, Kidd-Gilchrist, Melo NetScouts Basketball Players of the Week

NetScouts Basketball has named Georgetown guard Sugar Rodgers as its Women's National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Jan. 1. Rodgers, a 5-11 junior guard from Suffolk, Va., averaged 36.5 points in two games in Dartmouth's Blue Sky Classic, matching a career high with 34 points against Vermont and then topping it the next day with 39 points against the host Big Green to be named MVP of the tournament. Rodgers leads the Hoyas (12-2) and the Big East in scoring at 20.2 ppg and is 17th in the nation.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist of Kentucky is our Men's National Player of the Week. Gilchrist, a 6'7, 232-pound freshman from Somerdale, NJ averaged 21 points and 12.5 rebounds in wins over Louisville (69-62) and Lamar (86-64) including a game high 24 points and 19 rebounds against in-state rival Louisville.

Gilchrist scored 18 points on 5-for-6 shooting against Lamar to go along with six rebounds and four assists before his monster game against Louisville in which he had career highs in both points and rebounds. Gilchrist is now averaging 13.9 points and 7.9 rebounds a game for the Wildcats.

Fab Melo of top-ranked Syracuse, a 7'0, 244-pound sophomore center from Juiz de Fora, Brazil is our International Player of the Week. Melo is starting to come into his own in his second season with the Orange. In wins over Seton Hall (75-49) and DePaul (87-68) He averaged 12 points, six rebounds and eight blocked shots while shooting 75% from the field (12-for-16). Melo had a double-double against Seton Hall with 12 points and 10 blocked shots.
