Summer is all about the light, easy and quick meal, and plenty of good snacks, drinks and treats. After all, it isn't just the season for BBQs and outdoor parties but also the season of travel, sports, concerts, recreation, celebrations and holidays.
Quick and ready snacks and munchies are essential, either to take on the go or serve at parties and events. Fruit and vegetables are staples but there's plenty of demand for other treats. Shrimp chips, seaweed crisps, and other interesting plays on crunchy and salty are everywhere this season. It's a bit of a unique update to the traditional tortilla style and can be served alone or with a range of dipping sauces. If something a little more traditional is wanted, artisan popcorn companies are putting a new spin on popped corn with crazy interesting flavors. Two favorites are GH Cretors and Gaslamp, both of which can be found and purchased online.
For treats, it's easier than ever to snap up fresh baked goods without even leaving the house. Harvard Sweet Boutique can zip cookies nearly straight from the oven to your home and they are nothing short amazing. Sucré is a source for the most eclectic and interesting macaroons. Barbara's Cookie Pies are great for larger groups.
Drinks are a summer staple, and when it comes to wine, Moscato and other sweet wines are amazing. Especially when mixed into sangria or other concoctions. Jacob Creek's Moscato and Sweet Red wines are both really good for the price. Mixed drinks are always a season favorite. Patron does not fail for margaritas, while Siesta Key rum is good for everything from Mojitos and cocktails.
If you're skipping alcohol, experiment and play with artisan sodas. The flavor combinations range from blood orange to juniper berry and can be as good as traditional soda.
